Music to blow your mind...and in India !

Looks like the Indian contemporary music scene does exist beyond the Bollywood trash one gets to hear everywhere. And not just exists, it's thriving. True, one usually gets to hear of only one-off bands like Pentagram, Parikrama, Swarathma, Indian Ocean, etc. But there's some mindfucking music out there...or under there, let's say...'cuz it's Underground Music which is providing the platform to some truly awesome talent of our times. =)

Being an ardent admirer of the metal genre, my first instinct has always been to look out for bands which cater to this taste. And one incredibly original band which has managed to impress me is the Mumbai-based band, Albatross. Influenced by many popular classic and contemporary metal bands, they have still shown an encouraging potential to develop their own distinct sound. Of recent formation (2009), the band has already released its first EP- Dinner is You, a conceptual album revolving around a guy with Kuru disease (laughing sickness supposed to be caused by eating humans).  It's got four tracks, and The Dining Table is my personal favourite.
Another track outside of Dinner is You, which I had the chance to hear was Gigi- which revolves around a doll which comes alive at the behest of its owner, and sounds pretty fresh.

Thermal And a Quarter was another discovery in the rock genre. Clean, toned-down metro sounds impart an old-times quality to their music, and well, personally, I loved their lyrics. You can listen to their music on their site.

Well, I do not consider myself a qualified enough to make critical comments upon music, but here I've tried to throw some light upon some of the music which really affected me. Hope you like it too. :) ...And all this is just the tip of the iceberg. \m/
